Interview with Bailey Ardisone + Giveaway

Happy Monday, folks! Today we have an interview with the authors of SWEET OBLIVION, Bailey Ardison, to help you through those Monday blahs.

Bailey Ardisone is a collaboration by two sisters born and raised outside of Chicago, Illinois. They took the last names of their two grandmothers and combined them together to form their pen name. They both married the love of their lives and spend their days submerged in books, movies, music, or art and love traveling. Fantasy books and movies have been a huge part of their lives and are obsessed with Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien.

SWEET OBLIVION is the first book they have written together and is the first installment of a series.

About the Book:

sweet: adjective ˈswēt a : pleasing to the mind or feelings
obliv·i·on: noun ə-ˈbli-vē-ən, ō-, ä- 1: the fact or condition of forgetting or having forgotten
Have you ever wanted to forget? Nariella Woodlinn has. Many times. Especially when her already frustrating life gets turned upside down by a mysterious boy who randomly shows up in her small town and she can’t seem to understand anything about him, despite how much she tries.

Nari hates everything about her life except for her best friend Rydan, but now that they’ve been separated during their senior year of high school, she has to learn to make new friends without him. When strange unexplainable phenomena start becoming an every day part of her life, Nari struggles to come to grips with reality. And with love.
Naminé has responsibilities. Duties. It is her obligation to fulfill all that is asked of her by their King. But when a glimmer of hope is introduced to her by a prisoner she tends to and it means life or death for her and her people, she does all that she can to turn that hope into reality and finally end the vicious war that has been ensuing since she was born. Even if that means keeping it secret from her King. Even if it means carrying out the biggest betrayal against the King ever seen during her time.
She has hope. She will fulfill her duty. She will not let her people down.

Some secrets are best kept in Oblivion.

Welcome to We Do Write, Bailey Ardisone. How long have you been writing?

Hello! Thank you for having me! I have been writing for the past 4 or 5 years, but my sister (the other half of our duo) has been writing all of her life.

Tell us about SWEET OBLIVION. What’s the story about?

It is about a girl (Nariella, who doesn't have the best of circumstances) discovers what it is like to love people other than her only friend, Rydan. New people come in her life, and one particular guy completely flips her world upside down. It is about her trying to figure out who this guy is and why he brings out so many different emotions in her, which she has never experienced before. At the same time, another young girl (Naminé) is in even more dire circumstances. Her Kingdom is in the middle of a long ongoing war, and she discovers it is up to her, and only her, to carry out any hope of ending this war.

Intriguing! I love dual points of view. How did the idea of the story come to you?

I knew what I wanted my characters to be, and I knew what I wanted to write about, and the story just kind of spilled out during collaboration sessions with my sister.

Do you have a critique group/partner or beta readers, or do you self-edit?

At first we did self-editing, but we quickly discovered, after releasing, that we did not know how to edit properly. LOL. So we got a fabulous editor who is a fellow Indie Author (Helen Boswell).

That must have been a surprise! Good editors are worth their weight in platinum. Are you a plotter or a pantser?

I have a general idea of what I want to happen in the story but it does kind of come to me as I am writing.

What’s the hardest part of writing for you?

The filler/fluff stuff. All the extra parts of the story that don't involve an interactive scene. I wouldn't say it is hard for me to do, but I prefer writing dialog and the big scenes =)

Yes. Segues can be tough. What do you absolutely have to have nearby when writing?

Hmmm....I love drinking coffee when I write. But I always forget about it, so it gets cold. I heat it up in the microwave, only to forget about it again. I repeat the heating up/getting cold thing like 20 times before I finish the cup LOL

If you could have any super power, what would it be?

Telekinesis would be pretty cool I'd say.

What's the weirdest thing you've googled?

Hahaha such an interesting question....ummm.....gosh. I'm not really sure! Nothing too weird I guess because I can't think of anything! lol

Quick writing test! Use the following words in a sentence: scandal, sword, chocolate.

During the King's outrage, the knight brought up his sword to quickly slice the chocolate from the traitor's grasp, preventing the vicious scandal from ensuing.

Ha! Now, why would chocolate start a vicious scandal... Things I must know!

Finish this sentence: If I'm not writing, I'm probably ...

Reading. Or watching my favorite TV shows/movies =) OR drawing!!

Here’s the part where you thank the people who are supporting you. Let's hear your shout outs

My husband, my mom, my friends Kelly and Mary - I don't know what I would do without all of you! I love you all, and thank you so very much for your continued support! *hugs*
