Interview with JF Jenkins PLUS Giveaway

Welcome to the next tour stop on the VALA: AGENDAS blog tour. We're talking with author J.F. Jenkins. Be sure to leave a comment to win an ebook copy of the book!

J.F. Jenkins lives in Minneapolis where she spends most of her time creating and plotting world domination – something that has been in the works for roughly 13 years. In her free time she works as the local coffee wench and dominates the minions of the pixilated world on her PS3. She’s also got a little man (J Walk) and a little man trapped in a big man’s body (J Dawg) to take care of along with her two fur babies Ushi and Tibu.

Hi Jillian! Welcome to We Do Write. How long have you been writing?

Since I was about thirteen. That's when I started doing it consistently at least!

Tell us about VALA: AGENDAS. What’s the story about?

In a nutshell: Your average, every day girl finds out she's not so average and every day. There's also a deeper story layered underneath about true love, destiny, and how our promises impact that rest of the world. Add in a random and colorful cast of characters, and you've got a YA urban fantasy adventure involving mythological creatures and how they can blend in to society.

How did the idea of the story come to you?

I had a dream. Most of my ideas come that way. I call it divine inspiration. It started as a girl going to a boarding school for witches and other magical critters, and just evolved as I started writing it.

Do you have a critique group/partner or beta readers, or do you self-edit?

Finding a good group/beta reader is hard. I've had several in my time. At the time being I have one beta who's been helpful even if they point out things that are hard for me to swallow sometimes! Usually, I self edit as much as possible.

Are you a planner or a pantser?

I do a little bit of both. ;)

What’s the hardest part of writing for you?

Starting. I never feel like I begin a story in the right place.

What do you absolutely have to have nearby when writing?

Something to drink and a pillow.

If you could have any super power, what would it be?

What's the weirdest thing you've googled?

How to put a cat in a bottle.

o.0 Okay, lol. Quick writing test! Use the following words in a sentence: radically, fruition, and relocate.

Haha, this broke my brain, but I also have a cold. I'll take an F on the test.

This from the woman who looks up how to put cats in bottles, lol. Finish this sentence: If I'm not writing, I'm probably …

Here’s the part where you thank the people who are supporting you. Let's hear your shout outs.

Astraea Press, especially Stephanie Taylor
Brea Essex
Liz Botts
Lil Man
Lacy L Larson

And finally, where can people find you and your book online?

Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and wherever E-Books are sold!

Hi, Jillian and Dorothy! Very nice interview. But...I'm really curious why you googled putting a cat in a bottle. Should we be worried?

Stuart, someone had told me once that it was possible. I wanted to see if it was in fact true. Turns out it's not, lol. Just a false internet hoax with a lot of really weird pictures.
