Book Blitz: House of Royals by Keary Taylor

Today we're joining the HOUSE OF ROYALS  book blitz. Check out this new adult paranormal, and don't forget to enter the rafflecopter at the end of the post.

House of Royals
Keary Taylor
(House of Royals, #1)
Publication date: June 21st 2015
Genres: New Adult, Paranormal
If you loved BRANDED, you won’t want to miss HOUSE OF ROYALS, Keary Taylor’s newest dark, romantic read.
Every town has its history and skeletons, but Silent Bend, Mississippi’s are darker than most. Ruled from the shadows by the House—the immortal Born and their aging, enslaved Bitten—everyone knows not to go out after dark and that the police will never look into crimes involving blood.
Alivia Ryan didn’t know the man who claims to be her father through a will even existed until she inherits the Conrath plantation. Instead of the sleepy house she expects, she finds a mansion and a staff who look at her with fear in their eyes.
Ian Ward tried to kill Alivia the first time they met, and then insisted he train her to defend herself against the House, who he claims will try to manipulate and take her in for their own political reasons. And the growing attraction between them will threaten their lives—Ian is a sworn enemy of the House.
In Silent Bend, people disappear, the threat of a demented King and the legend of his resurrecting Queen hang over everyone’s heads, and proving loyalty means far more than blood. You’d better watch who you trust in this town…
EXCERPT:
“What are you doing here?” he hisses, pulling me close. His lips tickle my ear. His hand on my waist slips low and his fingers dig into my skin just a little.
The breath catches in my chest and every nerve ending in my body goes crazy. The music surges, and this night suddenly feels too big for me to breathe.
“I’m not lying down and taking a fate I didn’t ask for,” I manage. My fingers cling hard to Ian’s shoulder. I can feel the muscles beneath his clothes tense and tighten. And suddenly, I’m back to the days at his cabin, when he’d come walking out of the shower with only a towel and I pretended not to look. I know what his bare skin looks like, and I’m craving another glimpse.
“They won’t care about a show of good faith,” he says. “Do you have any idea what this party is even for?”
My silence is his answer.
“They throw this party once a year and offer massive amounts of alcohol so that people won’t remember the blackouts that come from being fed on.”
My eyes dart to that door at the back of the room. The blood on the woman’s shoulder. The blood in the corner of the man’s mouth.
“They’re feeding on the party attendees,” I say.
Ian nods. His scratchy cheek brushes mine. “The bite numbs and makes you forget, but people tend to realize they blacked out. A party like this with this much booze, you brush it off. It’s the one time a year they feed freely upon the townspeople. It’s the only way to keep people from asking too many questions.”
It’s terrifying and horrifying, and I’m suddenly wondering if the man was asking me to dance as my turn to be fed upon.
“It’s bad, but I have to do something, Ian,” I breathe.
“Walking into the fire isn’t the way to do it,” he whispers into my ear.

Blog Tour: The Traitor's Trap by Brendan Murphy (Excerpt PLUS $25 Giveaway)

Traitor's Trap

traitors trapThe Traitor's Trap by Brendan Murphy
It’s tough being a thirteen-year old schoolboy, especially when you’re a coward and the big brother who stuck up for you is dead. Oh, and you’ve been thrust into a magical realm you’re expected to save single-handedly.

Sebastian Duffy has to learn an awful lot of skills in a hurry if he is to defeat Phobitor by stealing the Spear of Lugh from the peace-loving Tuath. He’s been given some help of course–a mercurial sorceress, an orphaned druidess, a taciturn warrior, a snuff-sniffing leprechaun and a lovelorn poet– an outfit known as the Hibernauts, but can he really overcome a psychopathic, warmongering god when half the realm is bent on his destruction?

If he is to have the remotest chance he will have to do deal with aiia, cluricaun, brigands, woodwose, undead warriors, speckled bats, spies, hunkypunks, traitors, skeletons and battle-swine first. And are those Tuath really so peaceable? If only he could find his courage.

Excerpt:
Gobbleratches had arrived in droves and the sky was filled with twisting, plummeting forms. He sank to his knees.
“I could have prevented this,” he wailed, curling into a ball. “Why did they do this to me? How could they expect me to kill thousands to save more? I’m just a boy.”
He screwed his eyes shut and pressed his palms against his ears, trying to zone out. It did no good. The battle consumed his senses. He could taste it.
“Are you alright?” asked Blodwyn, her voice appearing to come at him down a tunnel.
“Why did you bring me here?” he cried angrily, his hands trembling uncontrollably.
“I’m so sorry,” sobbed Blodwyn, dropping beside him. “I’m so, so sorry.”
“I can’t get away,” he screamed. “I’m scared. I want to go away. I want to go home.”
Feeling her hands on him, he pushed her roughly away, but when she persisted he found he had no fight left and he let her fold herself around him, opening his eyes to her hypnotic gaze. He saw her raise her arm and bring it toward him, felt the branch touch his brow, and as her lips brushed his lobes and her tears kissed his face, heard the words she whispered in his ear, knew, even as he dissolved into sleep, that he had never heard anything so wonderful in all his life.
“Child of my heart,” she murmured. “Child of my heart.”

The Emissary

For hundreds of years, dark clouds covered the skies of Adamah, and an ageless king ruled. Those who emerged with one of six extraordinary Shay powers were forced into the king's army, an unmatched force with inhuman Strength, Speed, Accuracy, Perception, Empathy, and Healing. With the army at his side, the king—a man who wields all six abilities—was invincible and unquestioned in his rule. To most, serving the king was an honor. And for some, it was a fate worse than death.
When seventeen-year-old Nolan Trividar witnesses the transformation of his brother from kind to cruel after entering the king’s army, he vows never to follow the same path. So when his own power—the Shay of Accuracy—comes upon him at the Tournament of Awakening, Nolan conceals his emergence instead of joining the king’s ranks. For years, he traitorously hides his power, pretending to be a gifted scribe. But when Nolan comes face-to-face with a deserter, the man discovers his secret. To evade detection and a death sentence, Nolan escapes with the deserter and flees into a night filled with dark creatures who steal both powers and souls.
Nolan joins a resistance, a village hidden deep in the forest, filled with others who secretly wield a Shay. But his peace is short lived when they discover that the dark clouds, the undead creatures, their own decreasing powers, and even the king, are all connected.

Hannah Both Ways Blog Tour: Interview with Rosie Greenway PLUS Giveaway

Today We're joining the HANNAH BOTH WAYS blog tour by chatting with author Rosie Greenway. Grab a hot beverage and come get to know all about Rosie and her book. Be sure to enter the Rafflecopter at the end of the post!

Hi Rosie! Welcome to We Do Write.

Thank you for having me!

Tell us a bit about yourself.

I’m a former English teacher living in Ontario. I’m a pop culture junkie—music, art, films—I love it all. Writing is a passion I’ve enjoyed since I was a teenager. I’m thrilled to finally be able to share Hannah Both Ways with readers!

Tell our readers a bit about Hannah Both Ways.

A devastating Twitter prank yanks Hannah out of the popular crowd and turns her into the high school’s best bad joke. Determined to finish the year and graduate, Hannah must keep the humiliating details from her impulsive mother—who just might pack up their belongings and move. Again.

Hannah hovers below the radar by submersing herself in a new routine. Post-it notes, Dewey Decimal numbers and carefully planned trips to the library are her refuge. That is, until a persistent new student invades her space. Lucas has complete disregard for Hannah’s cynicism and snark, and he seems to know the bullies who targeted her. Can Hannah trust him, or is he part of another ploy to torment her?

How did the idea of the story come to you?

I was originally inspired by events I was reading about in the news (a tragic bullying incident, a teen stabbing at a bus stop), but once I started writing, diverse things inspired the movement of the story—odd things like Tweets and random snippets of Emily Dickinson poems that intrigued me. The characters themselves grew out of a handful of real kids I’ve known. I wish I’d journaled my experiences while brainstorming ideas, but once I start writing, I do tend to just motor along.

Are you a plotter or a pantser?

I plot in my head, so I do know the general endpoint, but I like to give the characters the opportunity to take the lead as opposed to trying the get from point A to a prescribed point B. For me, plotting too definitively tends to result in writer’s block.

What’s the hardest part of writing for you?

Finding time to get out all the ideas percolating in my mind is the most difficult aspect of writing. It’s incredibly frustrating having some great plot bunnies scampering about and not having enough time to corral them.

What do you absolutely have to have nearby when writing?

Nothing. I can’t afford to be that precious about process. If I find a few minutes, I just sit and write. The fewer “must-haves” the better!

What are you reading right now?

I’m reading Don Aker’s Delusion Road. It’s a 2016 White Pine finalist (and Don is an amazing person—if you’ve never read any of his books, pick up The First Stone. Great book.)

If you could have any super power, what would it be?

Perhaps it’s selfish, but I would love to have the ability to transmit all of the plotlines unfolding in my head onto a page without having to type. I could plug a machine into my brain and have the ideas spill out fully formed…gosh, that would be awesome.

Oh my goodness, I'm so on board with that! Best idea ever! Ok, what's the weirdest thing you've googled?

Last December I was trying to develop a plot line about teenagers and their exposure to pornography. I was Googling things like “how to deal with porn addiction.” Afterwards, I started getting weird pop-up ads suggesting therapy and 12 step programs. Yay me. Lol.

Ha! Too funny. Finish this sentence: If I'm not writing, I'm probably ...

Reading. Or watching The Walking Dead. Or out for dinner with my family. Or daydreaming about a new character or story. ☺

Here’s the part where you thank the people who are supporting you. Let's hear your shout outs.

I’m so grateful to Rebelight Books, to Melinda, Deb, and Suzanne, in particular, for taking a chance on a newbie YA author. I’m also thankful for all the bloggers, like you, who take the time to read and support authors so tirelessly!

Thanks for stopping by the blog, Rosie, and good luck with your book!

Interview with Resist author, Tracey Martin

Resist by Tracey Martin
(RedZone Book II)
Publication date: November 17th, 2015
Genres: Fantasy, Young Adult

Truth is a powerful weapon...but explosives never hurt. RedZone, Book 2 Sophia can run but she can't hide. RedZone is on her tail and those of the six tech-augmented soldiers who escaped its clutches with her. If she could only focus on fighting her way to safety, she might live long enough to disappear. But it's not just her own backside she needs to watch out for. At her side is her boyfriend, Kyle. He's the reason she found the courage to escape, and she'll do anything to keep him and his secrets out of RedZone's hands. Only problem is, since she was once sent to capture him, he has good reason not to trust her. In fact, there's not much trust to go around. RedZone keeps finding them, suggesting someone is a traitor. And if that's not enough to recapture the group, the organization has a backup plan. One that will force Sophia and Kyle to choose between safety and risking everything one more time. Warning: Contains killer robots, mutant college students, and dangerous super soldiers. And those are the good guys. It's enough to make a rogue assassin wish she were taking her philosophy final instead.

INTERVIEW

Hi, Tracey! Welcome to We Do Write. Tell us a bit about yourself.
Thanks for having me! I’m mild mannered research consultant by day, and a crazed writer by night. Probably like lots of writers, I have weaknesses for coffee and wine, and I eat way too much chocolate. Although I grew up around Philadelphia, I moved to northern New England for grad school many years ago, and I totally fell in love with the Boston area. Good thing too because I haven’t been able to leave yet.

Tell our readers a bit about RESIST.
If you don’t mind, let me tell you a bit about Revive because Resist is the sequel, and it’s kind of hard to talk about it without spoilers…
Alone in a train station bathroom, Sophia Hernandez has no memory of who she is or how she got there. All she’s certain of are three things: her college ID is a lie, bad people are coming for her, and no one can be trusted.
The only clue to her past is the fellow student who finds her. Although Sophia’s gut tells her Kyle is lying when he claims he can’t help her, his touch makes her heart race. Is it because of a red-hot natural attraction, or a missing memory of something far more dangerous?
As two mysterious, menacing men chase them from the station, Sophia’s memories return in frustrating fragments. So do deadly skills she didn’t know she had. In the next forty-eight hours, a loved one’s life will be on the line as she sifts through a mounting tangle of secrets and lies.
Including the most heart-wrenching secret of all. Not only isn’t she a normal college student, she isn’t even a normal human.
Resist picks up right where Revive ends, continuing Sophia and Kyle’s story. Each book stands alone, but they’re better read together.

How did the idea of the story come to you?
Usually I couldn’t answer this question because I have no clue where my ideas come from, but Revive and Resist were inspired by a movie I watched. I thought it had such an interesting premise, but it never followed through on it. I wanted a chance to redo that story. Of course, the end result doesn’t resemble the movie in any way, but that’s the fun of writing.

Are you a plotter or a pantser?
Definitely a plotter! If I didn’t plan things out, my characters would never do anything except trade barbs.

What’s the hardest part of writing for you?
Plotting, ugh. Taking a premise and turning it into a complete story is just painful for me.

What do you absolutely have to have nearby when writing?
The only thing I need is silence, or close to it. I can’t write in public because of the noise. Coffee doesn’t hurt either though!

If you could have any super power, what would it be?
This is a tough question. I think I’d like amazing healing powers and to never get sick. Maybe it’s not flashy, but if we didn’t have to worry about getting hurt, I think we’d be willing to risk a lot more to help others.

What's the weirdest thing you've googled?
I’m not sure. I’ve googled too many weird things, but researching rates of decomposition in different climates or the temperature need for turning bones into ash—those probably rank up there.

Finish this sentence: If I'm not writing, I'm probably ...
Curled up with a glass of wine, Netflix, and my husband.

Here’s the part where you thank the people who are supporting you.Let's hear your shout outs.
I love that you included this part because I love giving recognition to all the people who support me! I always have to give a shout-out to my husband first because he puts up this crazy-making hobby of mine, and to my editor who helps me make all my books so much better. I’m also super lucky to be a member of a couple great writing groups, and I don’t know what I’d have done without the support of the people in them.

Thanks so much for stopping by the blog! And good luck with RESIST!

About the Author

Tracey Martin grew up outside of Philadelphia, the lucky recipient of a drama-free childhood, which is why she spent so much time reading about other people's lives. It was while she was working on her doctorate in psychology that she had an epiphany--imaginary people are way more fun than real ones. And so she began writing. Never able to choose just one of anything, she currently writes both urban fantasy for adults and contemporary stories for teens.
She likes her coffee simple, her music epic, and her movies to contain explosions. A city girl at heart, she doesn't understand how she and her husband ended up living in New Hampshire, but writing keeps her off the mean, small town streets. You can find her online at tracey-martin.com.
