Attractive young woman near tree trunk

Show n'ot Tell Publishing Presents:

NEW ADULT POST - APOCALYPTIC ROMANCE SERIES

In 2021 the world as we know it changed. The government collapsed, and the worst characteristics of human nature were shown as the world fell into ruins. Years after The Fall, the Tribes that were established are still at war. They still fight to keep what they pillaged, and most of all, they fight to keep their lies a secret. In a world filled with deception, nothing is as it seems.
I was born into this world.
Hunter Marks was molded into this world; a General— a person cold and harsh. A person meant to kill me.
We were told to just believe.
We were taught to never question.
We’re supposed to be robots, and accept our roles in this altered society.
Too bad Hunter and I don’t follow the rules.
And we’re a hell of a lot stronger than they ever thought possible.
They’ve been searching for the world’s deadliest weapon.
It’s me.
And I’m not following the leader any more.

Excerpt

I would have given him everything.
I would have melded every part of me into him.
My breath caught in my throat.
I already had.
Love hadn’t existed in this world. Only hate, deceit and lies, but by letting him in I’d let all of that crumble. By letting me in he’d done the same, and now we were engaged in an even deadlier game than before.
We weren’t enemies as we had been born to be.
We weren’t friends as we had come to be.
Then what were we? I let my hands run through my hair as I clasped my eyes shut even tighter.
We were cursed.

Happy (early) Release Day, The Fourth Wish by Lindsay Ribar

Tomorrow marks the release of The Fourth Wish by my lovely agent, Lindsay Ribar. I am so excited to wish her a happy release day, I decided to do it a day early. If you haven't read the first book in this series, The Art of Wishing, you should. As a matter of fact, go order it now. I'll wait here.

And now a little bit about the second book in the series, The Fourth Wish.

Here’s what Margo McKenna knows about genies:

She’s seen Aladdin more times than she can count; she’s made three wishes on a magic ring ; she’s even fallen head over heels in love with Oliver, the cute genie whose life she saved by fighting off his archenemy. But none of this prepared her for the shock of becoming a genie herself.

At a time when she's trying to figure out who she wants to be, Margo is forced to become whomever her master wants. Everything she's taken for granted—graduating from high school, going to college, performing in the school musical, even being a girl—is called into question. But she’s also coming into a power she never imagined she'd have.

How will Margo reconcile who she is with what she’s becoming? And where will she and Oliver stand when she's done?

Happy Release Day, Lindsay! I can't wait for my copy to arrive in the mail!

Review: Unstoppable by SR Johannes

UNSTOPPABLE
by SR Johannes

After everything that has happened, Grace moves to the Everglades to live with her grandmother, Birdee, and hang out with old man Rex, Birdee's "friend with benefits". Grace quickly befriends Dylan, Rex's nephew, and Dylan's girlfriend, Sadie, who is a die-hard teen activist. Sadie spends her time leading protests against the roadside zoos that run rampant in Florida with a total disregard for animals or the flimsy law.

One day while out in the marshes of the Everglades, Grace and her friends rescue an abused—and endangered—Florida panther. She and Birdee spend time rehabilitating the animal. But when the panther runs off, Grace follows it to Uncle Bob's, a large roadside zoo they all have been protesting. One that is illegally filled with a variety of endangered and exotic animals. Before she can rescue the panther, she and her friends are kidnapped by the ruthless owner and dragged deep into the Everglades for a hunting challenge.

Only this time, Grace is the prey.

During a sick game of cat and mouse, Grace and her friends are offered one chance at survival, but only if they reach civilization before being caught. With a small head start and very little supplies, only time and skill stand between the hunter and the hunted. But out in the Everglades, there may be more dangers than Grace realizes.

Against all odds, Grace must make it out alive and win, or everything she holds dear could be lost.

Ligers and gators and snares, oh my!
My review of Unstoppable

SR Johannes knows exactly how to get your blood pumping while reading her books. In this third installment of the Nature of Grace series, I found myself gasping IN PUBLIC at some of her scenes. The book is that thrilling. Johannes has mastered the suspense factor, and all along showing her readers the importance of fighting for animal rights. Readers will root for Grace, bite their nails because of a liger, hold their breaths when faced with aligators, and shed a tear for a little monkey. And let's not forget the humans. All around well-written three-dimensional characters.

I really enjoyed reading this series, and I recommend it to fans of young adult thrillers, and of course to animal lovers everywhere.

FireInTheWoods.v6-Book1-Final

When a plane crashes in the woods near Jess’s home, the boy of her dreams falls out of the sky—literally. But David’s not here to find a girlfriend. He’s from another planet, and if Jess can’t help him get back to his ship, he’ll be stuck on Earth with nothing to look forward to but the pointy end of a dissection scalpel.

But her father runs their house like an army barracks, and with an alien on the loose, Major Dad isn’t too keen on the idea of Jess going anywhere. Ever. So how the heck is she supposed to help the sweetest, strangest, and cutest guy she’s ever met?

Hiding him in her room probably isn’t the best idea. Especially since her Dad is in charge of the squadron searching for David. That doesn’t mean she won’t do it. It just means she can't get caught.

Helping David get home while protecting her heart—that’s gonna be the hard part. After all, she can't really fall for a guy who’s not exactly from here.

As they race through the woods with Major Dad and most of the U.S. military one breath behind them, Jess and David grow closer than either of them anticipated. But all is not what it seems. David has a genocide-sized secret, and one betrayal later, they are both in handcuffs as alien warships are positioning themselves around the globe. Time is ticking down to Armageddon, and Jess must think fast if she's to save the boy she cares about without sacrificing Earth—and everyone on it.

Review and Giveaway: Phantom's Dance by Lesa Howard

When I was about Christine Dadey's age, I fell in love with an Andrew Lloyd Weber musical about a talented young singer and the talented stalker who fixated on her. Then I found a film adaptation that was far more beautiful than even the musical, that moved me to tears and sold the humanity of the Phantom so strongly that ultimately, it was sad that Christine's character couldn't ever truly choose him. Many adaptations and a gleeful reading of a good translation of the original later, there is Phantom's Dance, by Lesa Howard- a modern re-imagining of the classic tale of The Phantom of the Opera, wherein our aspiring star is not just a dancer in the ballet company, but in fact, a dancer studying ballet with no designs on becoming a musician. Completely modernized and technologically relevant, Phantom's Dance was a complicated piece for me.
First and foremost, I liked it, but... there is no way to adapt this story without a but, is there? Ultimately, the heart of the Phantom's tale is always going to be that a cunning, psychologically abusive, and ultimately violent older man takes advantage of a young and overly trusting girl in downright criminal ways, and she invariably fails to properly involve authorities. When it's a story taking place before the advent of electrical lighting, it is easy to accept Christine's choices, but in 2014, it is harder.

Phantom's Dance deals with a wide swath of social issues- infidelity, contraception and the threat of teen pregnancy, and edges up on discussion about eating disorders while blatantly addressing racism, classism, and rape. It's a fast moving book with a driving rhythm that pushes the reader along, right into uncomfortable territory. Uncomfortable is good. It makes a reader think.

Synopsis
Christine Dadey’s family uprooted their lives and moved to Houston for her to attend the prestigious Rousseau Academy of Dance. Now, two years later, Christine struggles to compete among the Academy’s finest dancers, her parents are on the brink of divorce, and she’s told no one about her debilitating performance anxiety and what she’s willing to do to cope with it.
Erik was a ballet prodigy, a savant, destined to be a star on the world’s stage, but a suspicious fire left Erik’s face horribly disfigured. Now, a lonely phantom forced to keep his scars hidden, he spends his nights haunting the theater halls, mourning all he’s lost. Then, from behind the curtain he sees the lovely Christine. The moldable, malleable Christine.

Drawn in by Erik’s unwavering confidence, Christine allows herself to believe Erik’s declarations that he can transform her into the dancer she longs to be. But Christine’s hope of achieving her dreams may be her undoing when she learns Erik is not everything he claims. And before long, Erik’s shadowy past jeopardizes Christine’s unstable present as his obsession with her becomes hopelessly entangled with his plans for revenge.

 AUTHOR BIO
I'm not the typical author. I didn't always enjoy reading or writing. While in school, I found it to be a chore I'd just as soon skip. I would rather have been daydreaming, my favorite past time. It wasn’t until I grew up and didn’t have to, that I realized reading was fun. I soon discovered that reading fueled my daydreaming. So, remembering a short story I'd written in high school, I began imagining expanding that story into a book. Before long I found I had loads of ideas for not just the short story but other books and stories as well. Fast forward a few years, a lot of studying about writing, practicing my writing, studying some more, taking classes from people who knew what they were doing, studying and practicing yet more, and ta-dah, author! In the same way I had learned I loved reading, I learned I loved writing, too. It’s just that writing is a lot harder than reading.
