Happy Release Day: Colonization by Aubrie Dionne PLUS Giveaway

Happy Book Birthday to COLONIZATION by Aubrie Dionne!

“Forbidden love on a paradise planet that’s anything but paradise...Dionne’s Colonization will keep you guessing.” – Cherie Reich, author of Defying Gravity

Finding a new home has never been so dangerous.

Andromeda has spent all seventeen years of her life aboard a deep space transport vessel destined for a paradise planet. Her safe cocoon is about to break open as Paradise 21 looms only one month away, and she must take the aptitude tests to determine her role on the new world and her computer
assigned lifemate. As a great-granddaughter of the Commander of the ship, she wants to live up to her family name. But, her forbidden love for her childhood friend, Sirius, distracts her and she fails the tests. The results place her in a menial role in the new colony and pair her with Corvus, “the oaf”.

But when Andromeda steps foot on Paradise 21, her predestined future is the least of her worries. Alien ghosts from a failed colonization warn her of a deadly threat to her colony. And when Sirius's ship crashes on the far ridge in an attempt to investigate, she journeys to rescue him with Corvus.

Andromeda now must convince the authorities of the imminent danger to protect her new home. What she didn't expect was a battle of her own feelings for Sirius and Corvus.

Can she save the colony and discover her true love?

Guest Post by Aubrie Dionne: Are We Alone?

Are We Alone?

That’s the question we all ask when we look at the stars. Is there life out there? Has it already been to Earth? Will we find it in our lifetimes? I used to want to meet aliens, but as I get older, I wonder if it would be like Christopher Columbus and the Native Americans, and I’m not sure which one we’d be.
I actually attended a North East Paranormal Associates event where they sponsored a speaker, Steven Jones, who talked openly about his abductions with aliens. He has a book out about his experiences called An Invitation to the Dance. The whole thing was kind of surreal and spooky at the same time. At the end I went up to him and said, “So many people want to meet aliens, but after your talk, I don’t want it to be me.” He laughed and agreed with me. And he thought it was so neat I was a sci fi author! How cool is that?
There are aliens in Haven 6, although they’re not what you think they are.  These aliens hatched form the eggs in Paradise 21 on Refuge, and this species is peaceful, benevolent, and wise. At first, when I wrote Paradise 21, I didn’t think I’d have a chance to delve into their society. Two books later, I’ve found a way to tie them into the central storyline.
Eri doesn’t meet the real aliens for a while. In fact, when her ship lands on Haven 6, they think the humans living there are aliens! It’s only much later that Striver brings her to “The Guardians” the race of bird-like angel people destined to save the human race from themselves. Read more for yourself in Haven 6!

Haven 6

A product of an illegal pairing, Eridani is the only woman without a lifemate aboard the colonization ship, the Heritage, and she is determined her less than perfect DNA will not get in the way of finding love. As the ship nears it's final destination of Haven 6 after five hundred years of travel, images of the surface show evidence of intelligent life on a planet that's supposed to be uninhabited. Commander Grier assigns Eri to the exploratory team to spy on the alien society and return with information on how to defeat them.

When Eri's team lands, tribes of humans attack and Eri is saved by Striver, the descendant of a colonist and a pirate from Old Earth's colonization efforts in other parts of the galaxy. Striver helps Eri rescue her team and they are drawn to each other despite their different allegiances. While Striver battles with trusting Eri, Eri must decide whether to warn him and his people about the commander's intentions, or follow orders and complete her mission.

Aubrie grew up watching the original Star Wars movies over and over again until she could recite and reenact every single scene in her backyard. She also loved The Goonies, Star Trek the Next Generation-favorite character was Data by far-, and Indiana Jones. But, her all time favorite movie was The Last Unicorn. She still wonders why the unicorn decided to change back to a unicorn in the end.

Aubrie wrote in her junior high yearbook that she wanted to be "A concert flutist" when she grew up. When she made that happen, she decided one career was not enough and embarked as a fantasy, sci fi author. Two careers seems to keep her busy. For now.

Interview with Aubrie Dionne

Is everyone ready for Thanksgiving weekend? I can't believe it's already here, and I can't believe it's the beginning of Advent already which means Christmas is practically around the corner. But before you all settle into turkey mode, I've got a wonderful treat for you. Namely, an interview with a very talented woman named Aubrie Dionne. And, one lucky commenter will win Audrie's book, Nebula's Music.

Welcome, Aubrie. Tell us a bit about yourself.

I am an author and a flutist in New England. I teach flute at the university level and own my own music business, where I play with my husband at weddings and other special events. My short stories have been featured in Mindflights, Niteblade, Silver Blade, Emerald Tales, Aurora Wolf, A Fly in Amer, Moon Drenched Fables and various anthologies.

How long have you been writing?

I've been writing all my life. My first known writing was a poem about a unicorn in elementary school, saved in my mom's scrapbook. But I started writing seriously in 2006. My first story idea was about Wishcasters, woman that could control the elements of earth, air, fire, and water.

What are you working on now?

I'm working on a young adult science fiction novel titled COLONIZATION: PARADISE 21. It's about a girl that has lived her whole life on a deep space transport vessel on route to colonize a paradise planet. She has to take aptitude tests to place her with a lifemate and a role on the new colony.

How did the idea of the story come to you?

I wondered what it would be like to live all of your life up in space, and also what would happen to everyone if we exhausted our resources on earth. I'd like to think we could live somewhere else and spread out over the galaxy.

Do you have a critique group/partner or beta readers, or do you self-edit?

I self edit the previous day's work the next day, but I also have critique partners and, of course, loyal beta readers like my mom and my sister!

What’s the hardest part of writing for you?

All of the rejection is tough. I get 95 percent rejections on stories and novels, but it's the 5 percent that keeps me going and gives me hope. You have to be persistent to be successful, and that's the hardest part.

Good advice. Let’s get to know you on a deeper level. If you could have any super power, what would it be?

I'd love to be able to stop and start time. Then I'd have all the time in the world to write and practice my flute!

Quick writing test! Use the following words in a sentence: cape, lecture, and Slip 'N Slide.

She threw herself onto the Slip 'N Slide, cape flying behind her as her brother lectured on about being more grown up!

Excellent visual there. Here’s the part where you thank the people who are supporting you. Let's hear your shout outs.

I'd like to thank all of my publishers: Wyvern Publications, Gypsy Shadow Publishing, Lyrical Press, and SynergEbooks for having faith in my writing. Also, my mom and my sister for being so supportive, and my husband for putting up with my crazy story ideas.

And finally, where can people find you online?

I have a website: www.authoraubrie.com and a blog: http://authoraubrie.blogspot.com

Thanks for chatting with us, Aubrie. I wish you much success with all your endeavors!

Thank you for interviewing me! Remember one lucky commenter gets Nebula's Music!
