AUTHOR BIO

I’m a fantasy writer who lives a slightly eccentric life with my accommodating husband and our charming, neurotic dog. I'm currently working on the Ondine Quartet, a young adult urban fantasy/paranormal series featuring a kick-ass heroine, powerful magic, and the complex world of water elementals.

I have a weird love of spreadsheets and organizational tools because they give me the illusion that I am somehow in control of the chaos that is my life. I adore beautiful art such as painting and sculpture, classical music, lyrical writing, and great graphic design. My all-time favorite books (as of this writing) are Immortality by Milan Kundera, 100 Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Beloved by Toni Morrison, The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, and The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka.

Book Blitz: Reap by Christina Channelle @channellewrites

Reap
Release Date: 10/11/13

Summary from Goodreads:
Foreign, or rather unfamiliar, would be the word I would use to describe how I felt.

Faintly, I could hear the glimmer of voices surrounding me in this dark haze, caressing my ears like skin against silk. I felt like I was in a cocoon of sorts, protectively enveloped, quietly drifting in some far-off place. I wanted
to stay that way forever.

But we all know that what you want never really seems to happen in the real world.

Something’s not right in Mia’s head.

The first thing is that her name isn’t Mia. In fact, she has no clue what her name is—who she is. All that she knows is that she’s not like the ones who found her: Dante with his kind blue eyes, Amy with her child-like demeanor, James with his questioning gaze.

And Briggs.

The one she cannot decipher no matter how hard she tries.

As Mia tries to fit in with these people, a strange occurrence is amidst
outside. And as she finally remembers who she is …

Well, let’s just say that things get a little more complicated.

Interview with Evan Bollinger

Today we're talking with author Evan Bollinger about his novella, THE FOLLOWERS.

Hi, Evan! Tell us a bit about yourself.

Well, I hail from the blue crab state, Maryland. I do some work in the public school system, and when I'm not trying to pour my mind out on the page, I'm usually just relaxing. Occasionally, I'll do odd jobs, and I also like to get a few runs in every week. I find it's both stress release and meditation. I tend to be an introvert, too. I'm also an avid people-watcher. Not in the creepy way of course, just gazing through the Aviators from afar...

but anyway, yea, I'm fascinated by certain ideas. I think metaphysics is cool. I absolutely love wordplay (I might have my own language by 2025). I also like to watch cartoon shows--the ones that essentially offend every demographic. I have an affinity for psychoanalyzing things that don't require it. I also have a strong tendency to sample every new beer on tap when I visit a bar. Friends and family have told me that I'm a little "eccentric."

How long have you been writing?

I've been writing since I could formulate words. I've become particularly serious about it in the past few years.

Tell us about THE FOLLOWERS. What’s the story about?

What will follow is a book that you have never read. You may have lived it, aside waking demons, but you've never seen it peeled so cleanly before your eyes. "The Followers" is a gripping novella that pierces the veil between the reality we know, and those worlds that overlay. It is the memory of a summer day that changed one's life forever.

Sometimes they stand beside us, in the whispers of wind...
have you let them in?

How did the idea of the story come to you?

The Followers is the nexus of many ideas. There's nostalgia for the freedom of youth, anguish, fantasy, and the dark underbelly of even life's smallest moments. I wanted to incorporate thoughts of life's meaning and structure--of the Multiverse. I wanted elements of horror, and the intrigue of beings that we have never seen, that we may not comprehend when we do. The Followers is a lot of different things for a lot of different reasons. I don't think it has the same meaning for any one person. And it shouldn't.

Are you a planner or a pantser?

Totally a pantser. I get ideas and then I start writing--there is very little initial planning. Then when I'm all done, I look at what I produced and usually think, "Well this is interesting..."

What’s the hardest part of writing for you?

Staying motivated when there doesn't seem to be any creative flow. Sometimes the tap just runs dry.

What do you absolutely have to have nearby when writing?

A cup of tea with like a pound of honey. And usually some music.

If you could have any super power, what would it be?

I always say flying. I think flying is awesome. There have been so many times in my life where I wish I could have just opened the nearest window and taken off for the clouds. If I could fly, I would explore every reach of the globe. I would also drop dung on the heads of people who deserved it ;)

What's the weirdest thing you've googled?

In 9th grade, some of my classmates and I googled images of people run over by tanks. I'm not kidding. It was weird and warped, but we got a kick out of bypassing the school's computer security. You can also google "Salad Fingers" and find some really odd stuff...

Quick writing test! Use the following words in a sentence: birds, chafing, and counselor.

My teacher sent me to the school counselor after I explained that the birds in my pants actually eased chafing.

LOL, okay. Finish this sentence: If I'm not writing, I'm probably ...

not as happy as I could be.

Here’s the part where you thank the people who are supporting you. Let's hear your shout outs.

Gotta give love to the people who brought me up--thanks parents! And then just a general shout out to friends and readers who have picked up on me. I guess I could be more specific, but I can't really remember all the names because I haven't had my tea with honey yet...

And finally, where can people find you and your book online?

Interview with Ioana Visan

Today we're chatting with author Ioana Visan about her latest novella, HUMAN INSTINCTS.

Welcome, Ioana! Tell us a bit about yourself.

I'm a web designer, and I live in Iasi, Romania. Ever since I was a little kid I dreamed about reaching the stars, but since I can't, I write about it.

How long have you been writing?

I was just doing the math the other day and I realized I've been writing in English for ten whole years. I've been writing in Romanian for way longer than that.

Tell us about HUMAN INSTINCTS. What’s the story about?

Human Instincts is an apocalyptic novella. We find out from the start that there was a war and a virus and then a vaccine whose side effect was putting an end to humans' ability to evolve intellectually. The story focuses on Dr. Deanna Nichols efforts to get unaffected DNA samples from a group of dangerous criminals held in a prison inside the arctic desert. Without giving away too much of the plot, I can tell you there's a lot of tension and drama, but there's also hope.

How did the idea of the story come to you?

I wanted to write an apocalyptic story, but I didn't want it to focus on the causes or the technical side of the event. I was more interested in the solution of the problem and the way it psychologically affected the people involved.

Do you have a critique group/partner or beta readers, or do you self-edit?

All of the above. My writing usually goes through four stages. First, I write the story and revise it once to get to the second draft. Then I let my friends read it for nitpicks on the plot and characterization. I fix the problems and then it's off to editors, people who don't know me and are not familiar with my writing. It works for me.

Are you a planner or a pantser?

A planner as in I know from the start how a story begins and how it ends. Everything in between is the pantser's fault… mostly.

What’s the hardest part of writing for you?

Waiting for editors to return their drafts.

What do you absolutely have to have nearby when writing?

If it's winter, the cat so I can keep my hands warm. Otherwise, silence would be nice.

If you could have any super power, what would it be?

From a selfish point of view, I think I'd choose teleportation. I like to travel, but I'm not so keen on the whole getting from one point to the next part.

What's the weirdest thing you've googled?

Nothing weird comes to mind, but being a science fiction writer, I did google lots of technical terms and procedures.

Quick writing test! Use the following words in a sentence: cryptic, devastate, and kangaroo.

The kangaroo mob had devastated the crop field, leaving behind cryptic infinity signs.

Here’s the part where you thank the people who are supporting you. Let's hear your shout outs.

I'm grateful to everyone who ever read my stories and asked for more. My editors must have a place reserved in heaven already, I demand so! And my family who is amazing and deserves all the best things in the world.

And finally, where can people find you online?

All the information regarding my writing is available on my website. My blog is my personal playground and I'm also happy to connect with readers on Facebook and Twitter. Here are some links.
